Global Citizen Movement Makers Summit

Tuesday 25 September

Presented by long-time OYW partner Johnson & Johnson, Movement Makers is an opportunity to connect across generations, communities and experiences. The idea is to make surprising connections - between ideas and people - and for everyone to collectively work towards change - keeping in mind the following themes: empathy, collaboration and readiness.

This year’s Movement Maker participants bring a wealth of experience in leading and shaping movements related to civil rights, education reform, environmental protection, gender equality, disability rights, changing cultural perceptions, youth leadership, mindfulness, and more.”

UNGA Kick-Off Reception. Hosted by We Are All Human Foundation

To kick off Global Goals week with optimism, we’ll be joining the We Are All Human Foundation to celebrate the initiatives that have emerged during the last year, like the creation of the SDG Lion Award of the Cannes International Festival of Creativity and its inaugural winner, the Palau Pledge. Launched by OYW Ambassador Nicolle Fagan, the Pledge is the first of its kind, requiring all visitors in Palau to sign an eco-pledge upon arrival.

OYW is a proud partner of the Foundation’s initiative Global GoalsCast, a podcast that inspires and empowers listeners to make the world a better place by sharing the stories individuals, companies, and organizations that are advancing and achieving a more sustainable world. It is hosted by Edie Lush, Executive Editor of Hub Culture and Claudia Romo Edelman, special advisor at UNICEF.  

Social Good Summit

Speakers include OYW Counsellors Mashable Founder Pete Cashmore, actress and activist Amber Heard, President & CEO of UN Foundation Kathy Calvin, and UN Youth Envoy Jayathma Wickramanayake.

Goalkeepers. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

25 - 26 September 

A Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation initiative, Goalkeepers is dedicated to accelerating progress towards the Global Goals. The two-day event will “ highlight how the tremendous growth in youth populations will be a turning point for future progress in health, equality and development.”

OYW Ambassadors Jaha Dukureh and Trisha Shetty will be two of several young speakers presenting alongside Bill and Melinda Gates, Ed Sheeran, and Stephen Fry among others.

For the second year in a row, OYW partner Thomson Reuters will lend its prized Times Square billboard to celebrate the Sustainable Development Goals. Make sure to catch OYW’s design during Global Goals week.

Deloitte Panel: Preparing for tomorrow's workforce for the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Tuesday 25 September

The panel will focus on the youth skills gap in light of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Speakers include OYW Ambassador Bozhanka Vitanova, Co-Founder of Entrepreneurial Muscle Memory, and incoming OYW delegate Jamira Burley, Head of Youth Engagement and Skills at GBCEd as well as David Barnes, Deloitte Global Public Policy Leader.

Thomson Reuters Foundation: The Role of the Media in Reporting on LGBT+ People

The Thomson Reuters Foundation, in partnership with the UN LGBTI Core Group* and UN Free & Equal, has the pleasure of inviting you to a special event exploring the role of the media in reporting on LGBT+ people during the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.  The event marks the launch of Openly, the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s digital platform for LGBT+ news for a global audience.

Don Lemon, host of CNN Tonight, will be moderating a panel discussion that will feature LGBT+ activists including Founder of IraQueer and OYW Ambassador Amir Ashour.

Panel: Listen! A Youth Perspective on Preventing Violent Extremism
